My Approach

Introduction

My approach is unique - my greatest value to you is my ability to listen closely and hear you fully, seeing beyond the words to understand the message you are sharing, reflecting back to you what you hold within, and what you are struggling with. It's a partnership built on trust, a journey of moving beyond symptoms, coping mechanisms and distraction into a deeper awareness and understanding of your experience and inner self.

Sessions are dynamic, often focused on fostering greater awareness of that deeper part of you that affects your experience in life.

There are steps, but they aren't tasks to complete, they are more like stepping stones in your journey of self discovery.

The Steps

Openness

  • Openness to greater awareness, going deeper, trusting a process of reflection, intuition and insight, the possibility that there could be something hidden within, something limiting, shaping or controlling how you experience your world.

Awareness

  • Awareness of our actions and reactions. Much of what we do is autopilot.

  • Awareness of the subtle and automatic coping mechanisms designed to distract, avoid, deny and reject something deeper within.

  • A willingness to 'catch' ourselves when we react and a willingness to 'go there' to figure out why we react the way we do.

  • Our automated protections detach us from the source of those protections, often obscuring the source completely. Often, deep down, we know the source but work hard to avoid it. To make real, sustainable progress, we need to connect with that deeper part of ourselves.

Understanding

  • A willingness to understand what all that awareness points to, that which is hiding within.

  • A willingness to pursue that which has been refused, despite the fear and vulnerability it can raise.

  • Seeking to reconnect with, and really understand what it is that drives these protective and defensive habits.

  • There's a reason we avoid and deny a part of ourselves, it was something we learned at a young age, as we tried to find ways to 'fit' into the world. We learn to deny that part, to avoid triggering rejection from others. Now it's time to really understand that piece hidden within.

Acceptance

  • A willingness to explore the importance and impact of that deeper part of ourselves, that deeper knowledge.

  • A willingness to find our own inner acceptance and peace with that which we have discovered.

  • Now that we've found and better understand that part of us that's been 'missing', we can come to accept the truth about our whole self and ability.

Integration / Action

  • A willingness to embrace that part of us that has always been there and always needed to be accepted, regardless of how others reacted to it.

  • A commitment to integrate that part of us that has been missing.

  • A commitment to take action from that place of wholeness moving forward, no longer rejecting a piece of ourselves.

  • In this last step, we are applying our awareness, understanding and acceptance, embracing, integrating and acting from our whole self.
